What We Treat

Rotator cuff tear treatment in Murray.

The reach into the back seat that stops you cold. The arm that can’t find a comfortable spot at night. The lift you no longer trust overhead. It’s fixable, and it starts with a cause-first evaluation, not a guess.

Sound Familiar?

Does this sound like you?

  • Reaching into the back seat and stopping cold
  • Lying on that shoulder at night and waking up because of it
  • Fastening a seatbelt or washing your hair with a wince
  • Reaching a top shelf and feeling the arm give out
  • A dull ache down the outside of the arm that won’t quit
  • Losing power in the arm, like it won’t finish the motion

Why It Happens

Rotator cuff pain is a symptom. Something causes it.

Your shoulder doesn’t hurt for no reason. And it’s rarely just a torn tendon. It’s usually a mix of culprits: rotator cuff tendons that got overloaded and frayed. A shoulder blade that stopped moving well, so the tendons get pinched. Deep stabilizers that quietly weakened around the joint. And the daily reaching, lifting, and sleeping positions that keep reloading the same tendon before it heals.

None of that shows up on a quick glance. It takes a real, cause-first evaluation to sort out which one is actually driving your pain. That’s why rest, ice, or a generic stretching sheet so often falls short: they treat the symptom, not the source. Find the real cause, and the fix gets obvious. You’re the one who does the lifting for everyone else. That’s exactly why this shoulder is worth fixing now, not someday.

The Honest Truth

Waiting on a shoulder doesn’t make it wait on you.

If you keep waiting

  • Your neck and other arm start picking up the slack, and start aching too
  • The shoulder stiffens as you protect it, and loses more motion each month
  • A small, treatable tear can widen the longer it goes unloaded and unsupported

If you start this week

  • You know the actual cause by the end of visit one
  • Hands-on relief starts before you leave the building
  • You get a plan with an endpoint: a real one, not an open tab of visits

Nobody regrets starting too early. Every week, someone in our clinic says they regret waiting.

How We Fix It

The same four phases. Built for your shoulder.

Every plan has an endpoint. Here’s what the four phases look like for a shoulder.

Weeks 1–2

Pain

Calm the pain down.

Hands-on techniques calm the irritated tendon and take the edge off inflammation, starting your very first visit.

Weeks 2–6

Prime

Get your motion back.

Targeted mobility work restores the shoulder and shoulder-blade motion lost while you guarded the injury.

Weeks 6–10

Perform

Make it strong enough to trust.

Progressive rotator cuff and scapular strengthening rebuilds the stability the joint was missing.

Weeks 10+

Prevent

Return better than before.

Reaching, lifting, and overhead mechanics get tested under real load before you’re cleared to go all-in: that’s the endpoint, not just another appointment.

Absolutely amazing! Totally fixed my shoulders! Before I started PT with Lodestar, I couldn’t even put dishes in my cabinets without pain. Not anymore! I can’t recommend Lodestar Physical Therapy enough!!

Questions, Answered

What people ask before booking for a rotator cuff tear.

Often not. Many rotator cuff tears, especially partial ones, recover well without surgery when the right muscles are retrained to support the joint. Research shows plenty of people return to full activity with guided physical therapy alone. We start with a hands-on evaluation to find what’s actually driving your pain, and if surgery ever becomes genuinely necessary, we’ll help you find the right surgeon. You don’t have to decide that on day one.

In most cases, guided movement helps more than resting it does. Hurt doesn’t always mean harm, and a shoulder left still tends to stiffen and weaken, which slows healing. The key is dosing the right movement for your specific shoulder, which is exactly what a Doctor of PT sorts out at your evaluation, then progresses safely as you improve.

Most patients feel meaningful change within 4-6 visits. A full plan for a rotator cuff tear runs through all four phases, Pain, Prime, Perform, and Prevent, typically over 8-12 weeks, depending on the tear and how long you’ve been dealing with it. Either way, you get a plan with an endpoint: you’ll always know which phase you’re in and what’s left, not an open-ended string of appointments.
